GRADUATION PROJECT
According to the article 2 of “ITU Senate Principles regarding the attainment, submission and examination of graduation projects” in order to be enrolled onto the graduation project course, a student shall be obliged to have completed at least 110 credit hours and to have enrolled for all of their required courses. After these requirements have been fulfilled, registration can be done at the end of the add/drop week that announced in academic calendar.
Students who meet these conditions should provide for the approval of the faculty members working on issues of interest and sign “Graduation Consulting Agreement Form” mutually and after that submission of the form to the Head of Department is required. According to the academic calendar, deadline of the submission of this form is at the end of the add/drop week. This form is located within the documents.
Students, who enrolled in the graduation project, prepare the theoretical or practical thesis study under the guidance of the instructor or lecturer taking into consideration “Food Engineering Department Preparation Guidelines for Graduation Project”.
All issues related with the graduation project are described within “Food Engineering Department Graduation Project Principles”. Principles are located in the documents. The list of the graduation projects is also accessible in the documents.
GRADUATION PROJECT PRINCIPLES
1. GRADUATION PROJECT RULES
a) All graduation projects will be prepared according to the “Food Engineering Department Preparation Guidelines for Graduation Project”.
b) Compliance of the graduation project prepared by the student, with these guidelines is the responsibility of the supervisor.
c) According to “ITU Senate Principles regarding the attainment, submission and examination of graduation projects”, in order to be enrolled onto the graduation project course, a student shall be obliged to have completed at least 110 credit hours and to have enrolled for all of their required courses. After these requirements have been fulfilled, registration can be done at the end of the add/drop week that announced in academic calendar.
d) The graduation project can be left to the summer school with supervisor approval. But in this case, graduation of the students will also be the end of the summer school period.
2. DISTRIBUTION OF GRADUATION PROJECT TO THE SUPERVISORS
FIRST STAGE- The minimum number of students for each instructor will be determined by the Department by dividing the estimated total number of students who will take graduation project to the number of instructors, and this number shall be announced in the last week of 6th term. Students if they wish can make preliminary discussions with instructors. After the instructors accept to be a supervisor of requested students, students have a chance to determine the subject of graduation project in the 8th semester in advance.
SECOND STAGE- The instructor determines the subject of graduation study of the student that will work with him at the final day of the first week of the 8th semester, and “Graduation Project Consulting Agreement” signed by the supervisor and student shall submit to the Head of the Department.
THIRD STAGE- Students, who are unsupervised above the minimum number of students for each instructor, will determine the subject of the graduation project with the approval of the instructor that they want to work with. Head of the Department will assign the supervisor to the students who have difficulties to find supervisor. In both cases, “Graduation Project Consulting Agreement” signed by the supervisor and student shall submit to the Head of the Department.
3. GRADUATION PROJECT SUBMISSION PRINCIPLES
It will be carried out as described in the graduation project preparation guide. Projects must be delivered DEPARTMENT SECRETARY, no later than 1 week before the start date of the graduation project exams, which are published in the academic calendar, were spirals in 3 copies to be given to jurors.
In the graduation project exam, firstly a presentation is made by student using Power Point program of Microsoft Office. The students must explain the purpose and justification of the study and what they were done, when prepare this presentation. The presentation which was continued 20 minute approximately, must represent the study best.
After the examination, correcting the jury required (if any) are made and finalized form of project with "Graduation Project Submission Form" signed by the supervisor and student as recorded in the CD will be submitted to the Head of Department in 1 copies. CD is prepared as described in the Preparation Guidelines for Graduation Project. The original of the document which received evidence the delivery of the graduation project will be forwarded to the Student Affairs. Upon request to members of the jury, the corrected form of project is delivered to them.
4. GRADUATION PROJECT EXAM FORMAT
Examinations are held in the week following your final exams according to the regulations. In the graduation project exam, firstly a presentation is made by student using Power Point program of Microsoft Office. The students must explain the purpose and justification of the study and what they were done, when prepare this presentation. The presentation which is continued 20 minute approximately, must represent the study in the best way. The student took the exam must deliver "Senior Exit Survey".
5. GRADUATION PROJECT EXAM EVALUATION
5.1. Our department’s Graduation Project exam will be done on the scale of 100 points totally by the jury's evaluation of the criteria given in Table 1.

Scientific Adequacy of Thesis - Being determined the purpose of the thesis and designed in accordance with these purposes
- Being investigated of the study in accordance with this determined purposes
- Being selected correctly the methods applied in this study to achieve these purposes
- The quality of interpretation and discussion of findings and the results of the study with the current literature
- Being reflected subject and adequacy of literatures which were investigated about topic
Student’s Domination of the Thesis - Demonstrate of the student’s domination of the thesis with answers to questions the jury asked.
The Presentation of Thesis - Introduction of project, the visual techniques used in presentation and computer usage, speech quality, presentation time (each 2 minute more or less than 15 minute is 10% reduction basis)
Writing Quality of Thesis - The thesis’s being accordance with guide, writing form, printing quality
- The accuracy of references using in the thesis (with control of the jury members)
Yearly Performance Evaluation of Supervisor - The layout followed by student of the year, research capability, the interest in the subject and motivation

5.2. Each criterion will be graded over 10 points according to the points table below.
Inadequate: 0 Weak: 2 Enough: 4 Middle: 6 Good: 8 Excellent: 10
5.3. The average value of the sum of the scores each jury member will give a total are lettered using the absolute scale in Table 2.
